PRESS STATEMENT
MEMBER REPRESENTING OGBOMOSO NORTH CONSTITUENCY AT OYO STATE YOUTH PARLIAMENT CALL FOR CALM, THOROUGH INVESTIGATION, AND JUSTICE OVER THE TRAGIC INCIDENT AT AGUODO, OKELERIN, OGBOMOSO
The Member Of Oyo State Youth Parliament, representing Ogbomoso North Constituency, has received with deep concern the reports surrounding the tragic incident that occurred during the Egungun festival at Aguodo, Okelerin, Ogbomoso, which allegedly resulted in the death of a young man.
While reports circulating suggest that the deceased may have been shot by a police officer attached to the recently deployed tactical unit, I wish to emphasize that these claims remain subject to official investigation. I therefore urge members of the public to avoid drawing conclusions until the relevant authorities establish the facts.
I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased. We pray that Almighty God grants them the strength to bear this painful and irreparable loss.
At this critical moment, I call on the youths of Ogbomoso and all residents to remain calm, peaceful, and law abiding. Violence, reprisals, or the spread of unverified information will only undermine the pursuit of justice and the peace our community is known for.
I respectfully calls on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and all relevant security and government authorities to conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident. If any officer is found culpable after due investigation, justice must be served in accordance with the law, without fear or favour.
I also encourage witnesses and anyone with credible information to cooperate with the investigating authorities to ensure that the truth is established.
The protection of human life remains paramount. Every citizen deserves to feel safe, and public confidence in our security institutions can only be strengthened when accountability and justice prevail.
I appeal to community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organizations, and the media to continue promoting peace while allowing the investigative process to run its lawful course.
I remain committed to advocating for peace, justice, accountability, and the protection of the rights and lives of all citizens.
May the soul of the deceased rest in perfect peace.
Signed
Hon. Comr. Areo Oluwatobi Akintunde (AFRIKA)
Honourable Member, Oyo State Youth Parliament (3rd Assembly)
